FPD-MH20

This contact angle measuring system installs on existing instruments that have a sample stage. The system's vertically-equipped CCD camera observes droplets from above, allowing measurements on flat panels of unlimited size, like LCDs and PDPs.

Features

  • Save installation space and cost: If you are already using an instrument with a working stage, you can mount this system on it and use the common stage to save installation space and costs.
  • Optimized for low contact angles: Contact angles on glass are generally very low, around 5 degrees or lower. This system observes the top view of droplets to see the profile of the droplet edge more clearly.
  • Closed points measurement: The top view system enables you to measure droplets of every 10mm pitch in X and Y directions without removing the previously measured droplets.
  • Contact angle is sensitive enough to show differences of even a monolayer order of organic contamination.
  • Includes a measuring head, control unit, and image analysis software that communicates with the coupled instrument.

Measurement principle

The vertically arranged CCD camera system observes the top view of the droplet.

The precision pump dispenses a droplet and its volume is calculated by image analysis, then the diameter of the droplet is measured after it's deposited on the substrate.

The volume and diameter of the droplet can then determine its height. The contact angle is calculated from the diameter and height of the droplet using the “θ/2 method”.

Applications

Evaluates substrates like sheet glasses, wafers, etc. for these characteristics:

  • Cleanliness of substrates after cleaning processes:
  • Removal of organic contamination, residual of photo resist, etc.
  • Wettability/adhesiveness of coated surfaces on substrates:
  • Color filter, orientation film, ITO, etc.
