Triboster TS 501

Triboster is Kyowa’s measurement instrument for coefficients of static/kinetic frictions, with a horizontal linear reciprocating motion system.

Features

  • Simple installation by connecting the compact body to a laptop PC.
  • The Y-axis adjustable stage and balancing system allows you to change samples and measuring positions with ease.
  • A wide variety of combination measurements can be carried out by selecting the shape of contact parts, weight, speed, and repetitions. The dependency can also be measured.
  • Simple statistical data is summarized and plotted to graphs from measured results, and can be pasted into spreadsheets.

Applications

  • Automobile:stick slip between wiper and window shield, and wiper durability
  • Textile: softness of fabrics after softening agent treatment
  • Painting: rubbing and wearing of coated surfaces
  • Cosmetics: peeling of nail polish
  • Paper: frictional conditions of paper-feed in copying machines, printers, etc.
  • Printing: rubbing and wearing of printed surfaces

Measurement principle

Analysis Method
The graph shows the variations of the Friction Coefficient over time. The Coefficient of Static Friction μs is determined by the peak between (A) - (B), and the Coefficient of Kinetic Friction μk is determined by the average between (B) - (C).

Friction of coefficient
Moving the stage while applying a vertical load to the contact part (upper sample), generates the Frictional Force F between the upper and the lower samples. In this condition, the Friction Coefficient is given by the equation μ = F / W.
